HOURS of baking gave some truly delicious savouries and fancies when Bow WI hosted its third annual High Tea at the Savoy afternoon on Sunday, September 22.

Held in Bow Village Hall, almost 100 people, more than ever, wore their Sunday best to help raise funds for the Institute and for the Calvert Trust.

There were tiny herby pork and apricot pies, creamed mushroom shells, Brie and cranberry shells among the savouries.

Sandwiches included cucumber and cream cheese, apple baked ham and honey mustard or roast beef, rocket and mustard.

The cakes, all bite sized, offered scones, jam and cream, cup cakes, lemon meringue pies, lime cheesecakes and more.

Everyone was welcomed by Dianah Pritchett-Farrell, president and a Board Trustee of the Devon Federation of Women’s Institutes. Entertainment was by the duo “Joined at the Hip”.

Funds raised for the Institute went towards materials to decorate a tree for their entry in this year’s Christmas Tree Festival at Crediton Parish Church. The Institute was a runner-up last year.

Prizes for the best dressed people went to Carole Ashton for the ladies, visiting from Canada and Chris Lawes for the gentlemen with the children’s prizes going to Emily Gutens and Maddie Drew. It was a pity all the boys who were there were busy waiting tables.

The Institute meets every second Tuesday in the month at Bow Village Hall at 7.30pm. All women are welcome to go along.
