HEALTH and social care workers in Crediton showed just how committed they are to providing dignified and respectful services by taking part in Dignity Action Day.

The aim of the day was to people's rights to dignity, something which the NHS and Devon County Council consider to be of high importance.

NHS Devon teamed up with Devon County Council and Age Concern regional support services to mark the day.

Staff from the three organisations made pledges on how they intend to provide and promote dignity for all people receiving care.

Patients and people who use services were invited to tell how they expect to be treated because dignity is set out as a right for patients in the NHS Constitution.

A spokesperson at Crediton said: "At Crediton hospital we are committed to providing a dignified experience for everyone who uses our services.

"We marked dignity action day by renewing this commitment and making an all-staff pledge: 'to always ask patients before we pull back the curtain.'

"We have also set up a dignity action board at the hospital on which patients can feed back to us how they expect to be treated. We will discuss all items raised at our fortnightly meetings."

From the beginning of March, the video and written pledges have been available at http://www.devonpct.nhs.uk">www.devonpct.nhs.uk or by adding NHS Devon as a friend on Facebook.
