CREDITON Library adjoins the popular Newcombes Meadow park and in March a toad decided to hop in and spend some time looking at the great range of books available.
On Tuesday, September 12, it was a squirrel which decided he would check out the books for him or herself!
William Mearns, First Assistant, Crediton Library, told the “Courier”: “Our unexpected guest must have been visiting the Crediton Library Community Garden and, seeing the door to the library open, decided to venture in to explore the non-fiction area.
“I managed to grab a quick photo before my colleague, Mark and I went to usher him (or her!) back out.
“He'd already decided non-fiction wasn't for him, but didn't fancy giving fiction a try (shame - he might have enjoyed Beatrix Potter's "The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin") so he ran out again.
“Our garden is shaded by a beech tree which is shedding beech nuts at the moment. These are, apparently, considered quite the delicacy by squirrels, so we won't be too surprised if we see him return in future!”
