FOR five years Crediton has won a Silvergilt award in the South West in Bloom contest. This year it is hoping for a gold award.

Judges toured the town on Tuesday, July 19, meeting at the parish church where Bill Jerman gave them a brief history and tour of the church.

Lead judge Tony Moore, who came to Crediton last year, and David Purkiss who is semi-retired and has been in horticulture all his life, were escorted by Crediton Town Council members Mike Szabo, co-ordinator of Crediton’s entry into RHS Britain in Bloom for South West in Bloom and Dee Ross, chairman of Sustainable Crediton which has been behind a number of the wildflower plantings in the town.

South West in Bloom is one of 18 regional and national competitions that make up Britain in Bloom, the biggest horticultural campaign in Europe.
