A CREDITON pensioner has spoken of her shock, and disgust, at finding that someone had defecated on her doorstep overnight.
The woman, who lives in Belle Parade, said she was “too scared to be identified” due to ongoing anti-social behaviour in the area.
She told the “Courier”: “I woke up in the morning and pulled back my curtains to the window and front door.
“Right outside my door, on the step, was a lump of toilet and men’s underwear full of toilet.
“I had to remove it all and wash down my mat and the area.
“It was not a pleasant experience.
“I found it on Sunday, September 11. I cannot believe that someone came into my garden and left the mess right outside my door.
“It made me really nervous and I tried to report it to the Police using the 101 number. I couldn’t get through so I wrote a full page letter and delivered it to Crediton Police Station.
“On the Thursday two Community Officers called to see me about it.
“I explained what a horrible thing it was.
“I told them all the details and also about the other issues we as local residents face.”
The woman said that she had also reported the incident to Crediton Town Council.
She asked that action be taken.
She continued: “The police and council ask that you report these things but they don’t have the resources to deal with anything.”
She added that the incident had “shaken her up” and that she had been waking up in the middle of the night.
It is well-known that the Mid Devon District Council-owned Newcombes Meadow nearby has seen many aspects of anti-social behaviour in recent months.
Late-night drinking, parties with loud music, dogs off leads in the park, and people using hedges as toilets have recently been reported.
Many late night revellers returning from pubs and clubs in the town often walk along Belle Parade and just a few weeks ago one local resident had flowers from a window box ripped out, many of the flowers left on top of parked cars.
Some residents have reported revellers banging on their windows causing them great distress.
The woman added: “It is not just about drunken antics it is also about responsibility and parental control.
“People don’t realise the problems we have in the town.
“It is a beautiful spot but later in the day and into the night you just don’t know what will happen.
“Something really needs to be done.”
