THE Annual General Meeting of Shobrooke Friendly Club was held at the Village Hall, Shobrooke on Wednesday, October 19.

This was held after a few rounds of bingo, at which the caller was Jack Fey.

Prizes for the bingo were provided, in part, by the club and donated by some members.

At the AGM, Barbara Woodford, who had been the treasurer for many years, was re-elected as president.

Jack Fey was re-elected as chairman for another year, as was the secretary, Eileen James, and the treasurer, Margaret Gale.

The committee consisting of Norman Gale, Amy Hooper, David and Jacqui Lee, Jo Rouse and Clifford Webber were re-elected en bloc.

It was proposed that Diane Tutton should be a member of the committee, and this was duly agreed upon.

Norman Gale, who had been supplying reports of the club’s activities to the “Crediton Courier”, was asked if he would continue to do so, and agreed.

Events for the forthcoming year were discussed and would be as follows: January 18 – Talk on Recycling by Felicity Jones of Mid Devon District Council, February 2 – Tiverton Pantomime “Dick Whittington”, February 15 – Talk by Wiltshire Farm Foods, March 15 – Gentle Circle Dance with Mrs J Thompson, April 19 – Talk on Devon Air Ambulance, May 17 – Outing to RHS Rosemoor and Atlantic Village, June 21 – Talk by David Brassington on his work as an Exeter Street Pastor, July 19 – Outing to Poole, August 16 – Summer Tea in the Village Hall, with Brian Sandy, Singer; September 20 – Outing to Clarks Village and Wells, October 18 – AGM, November 15 – Demonstration of Drawing/Painting by Local Artist Heather Irvine, November 6 – Social Afternoon and December 13 – Members Club Christmas Lunch.?Owing to the healthy state of the club finances the annual subscription will be kept at £6 per person. ?The next meeting of the club will be on November 16 at Shobrooke Village Hall, at 2.15pm, when Sir Neil Butterfield will give a talk on Crime and Punishment.

Sir Neil has been involved in some notorious cases over the years, so his talk should be quite interesting. ?On December 7 the club will be holding a social afternoon with tea and close-up magician, to which those Crediton persons who are not members of the club, but who support the club outings, are very welcome to attend. ?A visit to the pantomime, Dick Whittington, at Tiverton, is being planned for February 2.

The cost of the ticket is £8, plus an additional charge to cover the cost of the coach, which will depend on the numbers going. Anyone interested in going to the pantomime, or any other aspects regarding the club, or even joining as a member, can obtain further details from Margaret Gale on 01363 773282.
