DUE to illness, holidays and other sundry commitments only about 18 members were able to attend the June 15 meeting of Shobrooke Friendly Club, when Mrs Judith King gave a talk and demonstration on Exercises in a Chair.
Members were encouraged to take part in gentle exercises whilst sitting.
As time went by, the exercises became slightly more ambitious and difficult, with the speed of some of them being increased.
Those members with back or knee problems were warned to be careful, and not to do some of the exercises.
Some of the exercises required co-ordinating two different limbs at the same time, which proved to be a bit harder, and produced much laughter.
The members present seemed to enjoy taking part and thought that it was fun.
Members were warned that they might feel a little stiff the next day from their exertions. But as the saying goes, “No pain, no gain”.
The Chairman thanked Mrs King for an entertaining afternoon.
No doubt, this form of exercise is very different from the exercises usually conducted in a chair, such as head back, eyes shut, mouth open and strange sounds being directed at the ceiling.
