THIS year’s Mid Devon Scout Leaders’ meeting at the Boniface Centre, Crediton was attended by Leaders from across the district.

The meeting gave the District team an opportunity to put forward new ideas for the coming year to increase the fun and enjoyment for all young people within the Scout Movement across the Mid Devon District.

The Mid Devon District commissioner, Trevor Waycott, said: "Our main focus this year is the recruitment and retention of Leaders.

"There is a wide range of training available for all adults in Scouting to enhance their capabilities and provide opportunities for the young people of Mid Devon.

"These range from traditional Scouting skills such as first aid and pioneering, right the way through to information technology training and an improved management training course.

"All our Groups are run by dedicated volunteers and we are always in need of extra assistance so that we can offer Scouting to more young people.

"We aim to offer more extra spaces across the Mid Devon District and so your support will be much appreciated.

"We value your time and so opportunities are flexible, from once a week to once a month or just for occasional camps and trips.

"There is something for everyone, from assisting as a parent helper, becoming an Assistant Leader or a serving as a committee member.

"There is support and training for all roles and you can gain extra outdoor skills and qualifications, meet new people and have fun.

"Your skills and time will benefit the young people of the area and ensure that they are able to continue to take part in Scouting activities.

"Let us know what you would like to do and we will be more than happy to steer you on your volunteer journey."

During the meeting Grahame Simons, the Master of the Northcote Lodge in Exeter, and David Jaques, a Past Master of the Northcote Lodge, presented a cheque for £400 to the new Lapford Scout Group.

This is to accompany a £400 cheque recently presented to the scouts at Crediton Masonic Lodge and will go towards the purchase of a Standard for Lapford Scouts.
