A CREDITON woman has taken to a sewing machine to make face masks and face coverings, which are being sold in aid of local charity, Pete’s Dragons.
Sarah Snell, explained: “I decided to make masks for myself, my family and the staff at my shop, Sarah’s Barber Shop, as they seem more comfortable to wear and can be washed as well.
“Once I had made what I needed for everyone I wanted to do something to help others as well so I decided to make more masks and sell them and give all the money I made to a charity called Pete’s Dragons, which is based in Exmouth.
“Pete’s Dragons helps people and families after someone has committed suicide.
“My sewing machine was playing me up a bit as it was my husband’s Nan’s old machine.
“After talking to a lady called Beryl Hulland, who I met outside Crediton Post Office, I explained I was making masks to pass the time while my shop is closed and to help a charity, she then offered me her sewing machine for free.
“It was such a kind thing to do and it was also now a lot quicker for me to make the face masks.”
Sarah said she put some pictures on social media and was then asked if she could make some masks for children as well.
To-date she has sold more than £100 worth of masks and says all the money will go to Pete’s Dragons.
Sarah added: “I would really like to raise as much as possible for them, especially as it was recently Mental Health Week.
“I am finding that the boys like the masks with footballs on them at the moment.
“I am charging £5 for adult masks and the children’s masks are ages 7-12 £2.50 and age 3-6 £2, so if anyone would like a mask please message me on 07870 425275.”
Sarah added that if anyone has any old duvet covers she could use to make masks with girls or boys patterns, football, etc, then she would really like donations of the material.
