THE Sandford Folk Session will be celebrating its 10th birthday on February 1.
The sessions were started by Crediton couple Paul Watts and Hazel Underwood and are held on the first Tuesday of each month.
It began in Sandford at the Rose and Crown and moved several years ago to The Lamb Inn.
The session is held in the main bar or the small back bar and all are welcome to sing, play or listen.
It mostly attracts unaccompanied singers, but anything goes!
Material ranges from traditional folk to music hall, self penned lyrics and contemporary songs. Choruses always provide an opportunity for everyone to join in.
The session starts at 8pm and is informal with an emphasis on entertaining each other and sharing songs rather than performing.
It is enjoyed by those who go along to take part and others who happen to be dining or drinking in the bar.
Last year the Pennymoor Singaround, which runs a similar folk session, also started meeting at The Lamb Inn in the upstairs Dowrich room.
They are held on the third Wednesday of each month at 7.30pm.
It’s a friendly session and all are welcome.
This has helped put Sandford firmly on the map of the vibrant folk scene in Mid Devon.
