A COUPLE from Sandford celebrate their Golden Wedding tomorrow, Saturday, February 20.

Robin (73) and Angela (68) White, who live in Meadowside, both went to Sandford School and met in the Junior bar for 15-to-20-year-olds at the Rose and Crown.

They were soon a devoted couple, going to many dances, often at Chulmleigh as they like to follow the Kynd Band led by Trevor Pugsley.

They were married at St Swithun’s Church by the Rev Hamilton.

Robin’s Best Man was Alec Hill and Angela had four bridesmaids, Sheila, Annette, Sharon and Susan, who all wore warm red velvet dresses.

It was a very cold and wet day, Angela remembering that Bertram Authors, the photographer, managed to take the photographs between the heavy showers.

After their reception in the old Village Hall, the couple drove to Bristol for their Honeymoon, however, they did not like the city, so drove on to London, where again, they were not impressed, and returned to Devon and stayed at Plymouth for the rest of their Honeymoon!

Robin worked for the Forestry Commission and Angela at Babychic.

Robin had a leg injury, then worked for Mother’s Pride Bakery and then the Milk Factory, until he took early retirement.

Angela, then worked for Westward Babywear, followed by Jessie Jeans, and finally as a Dinner Lady at Sandford School.

The couple have one son Christopher, and two granddaughters, Jessica and Naomi, who all live locally.

Robin and Angela love travelling and have visited Australia, New Zealand, the Caribbean, Dubai, Singapore and the USA.

They had hoped to visit Canada for their Golden Wedding, which couldn’t take place due to the pandemic.

The trip has been put on hold for now, but hope that perhaps in the summer, they can have a family get together in their lovely garden.

The garden is well tended by Robin.

Robin and Angela also look after their son’s two delightful Saluki dogs once-a-week and enjoy walking with them.

They agreed that they have had a happy 50 years, but don’t know where the years have gone!
