A CEILIDH organised by the Crediton branch of Save the Children to mark the 90th anniversary of the founding of the charity was held at Sandford Parish Hall.

More than 80 people attended, where dancing was to the local band, Hips and Haws.

A special draw, with many prizes donated by local businesses, was drawn by Crediton Deputy Mayor, Cllr Mrs Joyce Harris.

Prizewinners were: William Clarke, of Crediton, Mr and Mrs Maulden of Exeter and also from Crediton, Mr Weekes, Lady Mills, Mr Lee, Mr Copper and Mr Tuckett.

It is hoped that between £800 and £900 will have been raised from the event.

Thanked for their support in helping make the ceilidh a success were Crediton Milling Company, for their donation, and for raffle prizes, Treloars, Cox's, Adams Home Hardware and Jill Holden at the Book Shop.

Hedgerow Print were thanked for printing the draw tickets and all those who attended were thanked for helping make it a success.

Stella Swain of Cheriton Fitzpaine Post Office was thanked for her support, as were Sandford Community Stores, and also Evans Newsagents, which acted as a ticket office.

Paddy and David Dornom were thanked for their help behind the scenes.

Branch secretary, Celia Davies, was asked to express thanks to her daughter, Eleanor Vaughan-Atkins, who made an exceptional celebration cake.

The cake was cut at the ceilidh and was greatly enjoyed.

The annual Save the Children Craft Fair will be held at Cheriton Bishop on October 10.

Paddy Dornom is currently considering holding a charity Christmas card event in Crediton and any other charities which would like to take part is invited to get in touch as soon as possible.
