MORE than 600 people each year face homelessness and multiple disadvantages in Exeter and surrounding areas.
Many of those who use the Exeter charity St Petrock’s (which helps those who are homeless or vulnerably housed) are people often viewed as being on the fringes of, or out-side of society.
They include rough-sleepers, those in supported accommodation or facing imminent homelessness, those released from prison, or discharged from hospital, mental health facilities and specialist accommodation.
Paul Fallon, vice-president, The Rotary Club of Crediton Boniface, said that last year, the people of Crediton helped the Rotary Club by donating clothing, sleeping bags and other items which were donated to St Petrock’s for the homeless in the city.
He thanked all those who made donations last year and explained that for the month of November, donations of clothing and sleeping bags, etc, are being collected at Crediton Morrisons off Mill Street and Tesco Crediton at Wellparks.
A collection point bin will be located in the recycling area at Crediton Morrisons and in the three parking bays to the right of the recycling area at Tesco Crediton.
"We are looking for donations of the following items: sleeping bags, rucksacks, waterproof jackets and trousers, mens jeans/t-shirts/socks/boxer shorts, boots and sturdy shoes and ‘Thermos’ flasks," said Mr Fallon.
He added that fellow Rotarians will empty the containers daily for storage in a secure location.?He concluded: "Thanks to Kirtonians, we hope we can make winter a little better for the unfortunate."
