DEVON County Council’s efforts to monitor traffic in Crediton have been hampered after an individual or individuals visited each of the locations that the traffic count machines have been placed and put them out of action.

The monitoring device includes two wires placed across the road and these not only monitor the amount of traffic but also the speed of vehicles, noting the time a vehicle wheel hits one then the second wire.

At each of the locations, one or both of the wires have been released from their fastenings, making the monitor ineffective.

The figures collated from such data, when working, is used to help judge future decisions on highways management and note when the roads are busiest.
