THE bells of St Andrew’s Church, Colebrooke, are in need of attention and an appeal to raise about £45,000 has been launched.

Various fundraising efforts are being arranged to try to raise money for Colebrooke Church Bells Restoration Project.Unfortunately a concert with the Jubilate Singers, which was due to be held on Saturday, October 22, will not now take place and is being re-scheduled for the Spring. In July a Craft Fayre and barbecue was held at the church. On November 26 a Bellringing Competition will take place at the church.

The six-bells at the church, with a tenor of 17 cwt, are said to have a fine tone.

Interestingly the peal contains a bell (the fourth), which was cast by Pennington, the name of a local family, in 1627.

It is intended eventually to make Colebrooke into a ringing centre with a simulator and to include a dumb bell whereupon people interested in learning how to ring can go along.

Experienced ringers will be welcome to attend to assist with teaching.
