ALL of the Year 8 students at Queen Elizabeth’s School in Crediton were treated to “Fun with Flight”, a 50-minute jet fuelled presentation exploring the physics of flying.
The QE students discovered how the physics they study in the classroom is an integral part of the work that engineers undertake in the RAF.
The RAF roadshow was devised in response to the Government’s acknowledgement that there is already a shortfall of “home-grown” scientists and engineers to meet the needs of the country and by capturing the interest of young people, they will hopefully increase the numbers that take STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) based subjects.
To do this the team used exciting demonstrations including their very own drone, VR (virtual reality) experience and even a mini (but still very loud!) jet engine to show the practical applications of what the students learn in the classroom.
Mrs Blagden and Mr Stanbury from QE’s Science department, said: “It was clearly enjoyed and appreciated and our thanks go to the RAF team for a great afternoon.”
