A DEVON charity has received a cheque for £1,420, thanks to enthusiasts who attend monthly quizzes at the New Inn, Coleford.
Katherine Weedall, Lead Practitioner for Young Carers South Hams/West Devon, run by Young Devon, received the cheque from landlord, George Cowie.
George organises the very popular quizzes every month and they are well-attended.
A volunteer quizmaster organises the quiz questions each time and often there is a theme to the questions.
Katherine said: “We currently have 500 young carers from the West Devon and South Hams area aged between five and 18 years-of-age registered with the service.
"The funding that has been raised by The New Inn will be used to support a number of activities and trips.
"The activities are vital as they help to decrease the young carer’s sense of isolation and they are able to meet other children and young people in similar situations.
"They also have the opportunity to engage in leisure opportunities that often they miss out on because of family circumstances.
"On behalf of the Young carers and Young Devon I would like to say a massive ’thank you’ to the New Inn and everyone who has been involved in supporting the quizzes and our project."
Over recent years, The New Inn quiz evenings and fundraising has raised thousands of pounds for local charities. Crediton and District Playscheme Association for Children with Special Needs, for example, a recent recipient, received £1,301.
