LOCAL schools in the Crediton area have celebrated World Book Day.

Pupils dressed up as their favourite fictional characters, including Where’s Wally, The Cat in the Hat, Harry Potter and more.

Children also enjoyed visits from Crediton’s community-owned bookshop The Bookery, which went to many schools to showcase its “Top Titles for 2026”.

A collection of 24 new books of varying difficulty for children aged four to 12, it features picture books, shorter chapter books, longer fiction, dyslexia-friendly titles, two graphic novels and non-fiction books.

Morrisons supermarket gave Morchard Bishop Primary School’s library a boost with a donation of books, and children’s author Ellie Jackson visited Winkleigh and Kings Nympton primary schools.
