THE grand sum of £1,700 was raised at a special lunch held at the Waie Inn, Zeal Monachorum to celebrate the 36th anniversary of the opening of the public house.

The annual charity lunch took place on Wednesday, July 13, and hundreds of people went along to enjoy a splendid set lunch comprising of a main course, dessert and tea or coffee.

The event started at 12 noon with the opening of the bring-and-buy stalls (cakes, plants, books etc) and lunch was served from 12.30pm. There was also a bumper draw.

Jean Burrow, hostess, said that the money raised will be divided between the Freewheelers Emergency Volunteer Service Blood Bikes and Bow Medical Practice.

She thanked all those who attended and supported the lunch.

Over the years the charity lunch events have raised tens of thousands of pounds for local and national charities.
