TEDBURN St Mary WI meeting on Tuesday, August 5, took the form of an excursion to Powderham Castle.

Members visited the castle, situated on the Exe Estuary, which has been home to the Earls of Devon and their families for generations.

Built in 1391 by Sir Philip Courtenay, Powderham was built as a medieval great hall, but over the last six centuries has been much adapted and altered. Members spent time admiring the beautiful gardens and scenery, before taking an informative and entertaining guided tour of the castle.

This was followed by delicious and enjoyable refreshments at the castle tearooms. Everyone had a super time.

Members of Tedburn St Mary WI continue to participate in a busy programme.

This has included sharing time together at a fantastic lunch held at Farmer Luxton’s in Okehampton, where they enjoyed home cooked local produce and the opportunity to complete some shopping.

Thank you to the staff at Farmer Luxton’s for looking after us so well.

WI members have also participated in walks and art sessions.

They are now busy preparing for the Tedburn St Mary Village Fair, where they will be running the tea tent. Do plan to come along to this event, which will be held on Saturday, September 13.

WI meetings are held in Tedburn St Mary Village Hall on the first Tuesday of each month, at 7.30pm. (Our next meeting is in September).

As always, we love to meet prospective new members, and you will be warmly welcomed if you would like to attend.

There are lots of activities on offer at Tedburn St Mary WI every month, including good speakers, walks, and knitting and craft sessions.

Remember that the first meeting attended is free, to enable you to decide whether to join our W.I.
