“A Reason to Stop” will open on Thursday, April 7 and run until Thursday, April 14 and all work on show will be based on something to do with the locality of Crediton, its history, architecture, agricultural heritage and annual events.
Arts Wave Devon is a partnership between Daisi, Dance in Devon, Devon Guild of Craftsmen and Wolf and Water, working with Devon County Council.
A Reason to Stop comprises six projects: two textile projects with older people, a mosaic project with children from Landscore Primary School, a ceramics project with children from Hayward’s Primary School, a printmaking project at Queen Elizabeth’s School with both primary schools, aided by students from QE’s art and English department, and a photography project with older people supported by Upstream culminating in this exhibition.
The projects have taken place all over the county during the last three years with the chief aim of involving children and young people, older people and people with disabilities in a variety of hands-on, arts participation opportunities.
The projects were funded by Arts Wave Devon and delivered through Devon Guild of Craftsmen with much help from the schools, Upstream, Double Elephant Print Workshop and the artists Charlotte Turner, Kate Green and Michelle McQuinn.
Upstream reaches out into local communities to help people who are mentally, physically or socially isolated to improve their health, well-being and quality of life.
The opening event on April 7 will run from 3pm to 5pm and all are welcome to attend.
