DURING the evening of Saturday, February, 28, Crediton Neighbourhood Police Team, including members of the Special Constabulary, conducted an operation targeting anti-social driving in the town.
Uniformed officers and officers in plain clothes were involved.
Crediton Police Sgt Gareth Twigg explained: "The operation was the direct result of members of the public telling us about anti-social driving which made them feel unsafe.
"This included the area of the Lords Meadow Leisure Centre.
"Over a period of time we have built up a rapport with the majority of young drivers who meet in the town and have explained the dangers and public concerns regarding inappropriate driving.
"The vast majority do act in a responsible manner but unfortunately there are a few who haven't heeded warnings."
One driver was spotted by officers involved in the operation allegedly "doing doughnuts" in the Leisure Centre car park . He has been reported for driving without due care and attention.
A local man convicted for a similar offence last year was disqualified from driving for six months.
Sgt Twigg continued: "I would prefer drivers to show consideration and drive safely rather than see them prosecuted but if people are caught driving in an anti-social manner they will face positive action, which can include being put before the courts."
During the operation, a driver caught driving on the wrong side of a bollard at a junction was issued with a ticket and three vehicle defect forms were issued.
Crediton Police intend to mount similar operations in the future in other areas where there have previously been issues raised, such as at Station Road.
