PRIOR to the recent May Bank Holiday local police received reports of the possibility of an unlicensed music event to be held at Heywood Woods, Eggesford.
The site has previously been a popular choice for illegal raves, especially over Bank Holiday weekends.
The information was swiftly acted upon and local officers carried out several high visibility patrols to stop any illegal activity.
Crediton Police Sergeant Dave MacFadden, said: "Thank you to the local community for bringing this vital information to our attention.
"We are aware that there is potentially a heightened risk of unauthorised music events taking place in our area over bank holiday periods.
"As a Force we have recognised this and as a result, have implemented and allocated dedicated officers to patrol these sites and stop these events from taking place at an early stage"
He added: "These events have a massive impact on local communities and businesses.
"It's Anti-Social Behaviour and Devon and Cornwall Police will take positive action against anybody they find responsible for organising or running such events".
He continued: "The information supplied by the local community is a prime example of how Police and the local community working together can produce positive results.
"As the majority of these events are in rural locations it is important that we work together to deter and combat this type of behaviour.
"I would ask members of the rural communities to contact us with any incidents of suspicious behaviour that they see at the earliest opportunity.
"This will give us the best chance of speaking to any individuals involved. Please contact us by using the 999 number if it's an emergency or the 101 number for a non emergency."
DELIBERATE DAMAGE TO TOILET
At approximately 10pm on Friday, May 24, Police were called to a fire in the ladies public toilets at Union Road, Crediton.
Police put the fire out using the extinguisher carried in their Police car. A fire crew from Crediton also attended to make the area safe.
The fire was started deliberately by setting fire to rolls of toilet paper and filling up the toilet with it.
It has resulted in permanent damage to the toilet and smoke damage to the cubicle.
It was necessary for a Mid Devon District Council employee to be called out overnight to lock up the toilets following the damage.
Police would like to hear from anyone who has any information to contact them on non emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111, quoting crime reference KC/13/375.
NO SPEEDING
Following concerns about speeding traffic along the B2220, members of the Crediton police team have been carrying out speed checks at various points in the area.
The police say regular attendance of the police team including the road policing unit will be undertaken at various times and dates and all offenders will be stopped.
STRONG WORDS
Crediton PCSO Dave Pilling has resolved an offence of "causing intentional harassment alarm and distress" by using Restorative Justice.
The offence took place in St Martins Lane, Crediton and involved a female using foul and abusive language which was directed at another member of the public.
After making local enquiries the offender was located and has accepted full responsibility for their actions.
Restorative Justice is a victim-led method of dealing with a crime.
The victim is asked how they would like the crime to be resolved.
In this case the victim wanted the offender to be issued with an anti-social behaviour warning letter.
PCSO Pilling stated: "Restorative Justice is a great way for a victim of crime to get a quick and positive result."
