CHERITON Fitzpaine and District’s annual ploughing match and produce show will be held on Sunday, September 17 at Chapel Down, Higher Road, Crediton (EX17 2EP), by kind permission of Mr and Mrs R Pennington.

The event, now in its 72nd year, will start at 10am and end after the presentation of trophies at about 4.30pm.

The ploughing will take several hours and is scored by invited judges who are often from outside the local area. Ploughing competitors come from as far afield as the Isle of Wight, Hampshire, Wales and Cornwall.

Last year the event saw two sets of ploughing horses compete against each other and it is hoped that they will attend this year - they always provide such a graceful spectacle.

The produce and competitions are held within the marquee and offer a variety of skills to be showcased such as handicrafts, cookery, flower arranging, photography and garden produce classes. There is also a range of children’s classes which are free to enter and are seen as great holiday projects to do perhaps on a rainy day.

The children’s classes are in age category with the four and under’s, five-seven years, eight-11 years and 12-16 years.

Most of the classes are open to everyone and to enter all you need to do is to complete an entry form which can be sent or emailed from the secretary Mrs Julie Davie by calling 01363 772309 or 07791 347 788.

Adult class entry is 50p per class and first prize could win you £3.

Well-behaved dogs on leads will be welcomed. There will be a catering van offering hot snacks and drinks all day and ice creams. Cream teas will be available from 2.30pm onwards.

Gate entry on the day is £2 per adult and children under 16 are admitted free. Lucky numbered programmes are available to purchase on the gate.
