MID Devon District Council has published its Local Plan Review (incorporating proposed modifications) covering the period to 2033, providing homes, jobs and facilities that will be needed in the years to come, while protecting the special areas of countryside that we cherish. The plan, which has evolved in full consultation with local communities, gives Cullompton a starring role in the district’s future in recognition of the need for new investment in the town, bringing long-term traffic and economic benefits.
MDDC has carried out very wide consultation on this plan and has considered all of the comments received very carefully.
Indeed, this will be the fourth consultation on the plan.
MAKE YOUR VIEWS KNOWN
It is now asking local people to make their views known on the proposed modifications to this final version of the plan before it is sent to an Independent Planning Inspector for approval and then adoption.
All of the revised evidence, including an addendum to the Sustainability Appraisal, will be published with the local plan and anyone can make comments on these documents as well from today, January 3.
The new Local Plan Review has been updated to take into account changes in government guidance, updated evidence and representations received during the previous Local Plan Review consultation in 2015.
The Local Plan Review also incorporates the decision taken by MDDC’s full council on September 22, 2016, to propose an allocation of land at Junction 27 of the M5 for high quality tourism, leisure, retail and associated additional housing.
The council is now asking local people to comment on these proposed changes.
At the same time as the Local Plan, the council has revised the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), a way to ensure that developers make a fair and reasonable contribution towards the schools, roads, leisure facilities and other local infrastructure needed in the area.
Parish and town councils will receive a proportion of this levy from developments in their area to spend on their local priorities.
The council is also asking local people to comment on the proposed changes to the CIL Draft Charging Schedule.
FANTASTIC OPPORTUNITY
Councillor Richard Chesterton, Cabinet Member for Planning and Economic Development, said: “The new Local Plan provides a fantastic opportunity to deliver sustainable development that reflects the visions and aspirations of our district.
"In addition, the revised Community Infrastructure Levy will help secure much-needed funding for infrastructure throughout Mid Devon.
"These latest consultations held on the Plan and CIL Draft Charging Schedule look at the changes which have been made in response to comments previously raised by the public and other organisations.”
The consultation will run until February 14 and views will be welcomed on the proposed modifications only and not on the wider unchanged content of the Local Plan Review and CIL.
The Local Plan Review, its Sustainability Appraisal, CIL documents, Statements of the Representations Procedure and other associated information is now available for inspection at Mid Devon Council offices at Phoenix House at Tiverton and at public libraries (including the mobile library) during normal opening hours.
Local Plan Review documents will be available to view via the website: www.middevon.gov.uk/localplanreview and CIL documents can be seen at: www.middevon.gov.uk/cil .

A public exhibition will also take place at the Boniface Centre in Crediton from 12 noon to 3pm on Wednesday, January 25.
