THE story appeared in the Courier on Friday, February 19, issue 1073.

Plans for a biogas plant, capable of suppling enough gas for 5,000 homes (which would be supplied to the grid), were revealed at a recent meeting of Crediton Town Council.

The plans were put forward by Graham Kerslake (farmer and businessman), James Lloyd (Biowatt Group) and Ed Heynes (Jillings Heynes Planning).

Materials such as farm wastes and processing from farming manures could be used in the anaerobic digestion plant.

The products would be transported by tractor and trailer to the site at Lord’s Meadow Industrial Estate from with- in a 12-mile area and stored in large silage-clamp-type facilities at the plant.

The site would encompass an area of more than ve acres on land owned by Mr Kerslake and would be accessed via the Link Road, Commonmarsh Lane and the bottom of Down End or via a farm track from the farm owned by Mr Kerslake.

A number of concerns were raised about the proposed Biogas Plant during the Council meeting including wor- ry over emission odours, uid run-off, ooding, vehicle movements and its close proximity to houses.

What you told us...

I don’t really know what to think about it. I can see good and bad in having a Biogas plant in Crediton.

I hadn’t thought about it. I think it’s a case of “not in my backyard” but it has to go somewhere I suppose. I’m not sure I like the idea, but it does need more investigation. I live at the other end of the town but I do feel for the people who will be living close to it.
