PLANS to knock down an “alien” 1950s bungalow in Thorverton and build a new two-storey home in its place have been submitted to Mid Devon District Council.

Clive and Hilary Thomas of Ottery St Mary want to demolish two-bedroom Sunnydale on Dinneford Street opposite St Thomas of Canterbury Church and replace it with a three-bedroom house.

The new home would have walls of off-white render with small areas of terracotta plain tile hanging, terracotta-colour tiles and solar panels on the roof and aluminium or PVC U windows and doors. It would have parking space for two cars.

“The appearance of the replacement dwelling is intended to harmonise with the character of the existing cottages and the general setting of the conservation area and nearby heritage assets,” planning documents say.
