ALMOST 175 people attended a candlelit vigil in Crediton’s Town Square last night, Thursday, March 3, to stand with those suffering in the war in Ukraine.
Everyone came together and surrounded a central feature of lit candles and yellow flowers.
There was an emotional speech from Natalia Letch, who originally came from Russia.
Natalia spoke of her love for Ukraine, about the beauty of the cities and country and about her family, some of those who came from Ukraine.
There was community singing and many people spoke of their thoughts and wishes for the war to end.
While an event for everyone to join in with, whether they have faith or not, prayers were offered by Crediton Rector, the Rev Matthew Tregenza.
There were moments of quiet reflection for people to think their own thoughts and the evening was a light of hope in the current darkness.
The evening was organised by Laura Conyngham, who said: “The turnout and contributions were amazing. Crediton at our best!”
She added: “I am so proud of Crediton coming together for Ukraine, and ourselves, this evening.
“About 175 attended and people spoke from the heart with ministry and singing.
“At times like this I am so proud of the way Crediton comes together and experiences being Quaker.”
A reminder to support via the Disasters Emergency Committee was issued during the evening.
