The story "Q E Principal says Ofsted concerns are being addressed after report says school "requires improvement" appeared in the Courier on Friday, July 20, issue 1199.

A recent OFSTED inspection raised a number of concerns about Queen Elizabeth’s School in Crediton and said that in many areas the school "requires improvement " and listed 11 areas.

The inspectors said that to improve further the school needs to improve the quality of teaching and raise pupils achievements, improve pupil’s personal development, behaviour and welfare, improve leadership and management, and improve the leadership and management of the boarding provision.

The Inspectors also said that the boarding provision required improvement in all areas, commenting on many weaknesses and shortfalls.

The report stated that "Teaching requires improvement because it is not consistently good across the school."

It also stated that the schools work to promote pupil’s personal development and welfare requires improvement as does the behaviour of pupils.

Another area which requires improvement was the achievement of pupils.

However the Inspectors said that the there were some strengths with the leadership of teaching more effective in the past year and teachers being given a clear vision for the future.

The report said the curriculum offers pupils an appropriate range of academic and vocational options and that the governing body has improved its ability to hold senior leaders to account.

The Q E Principal says that Ofsted concerns are being addressed.

What you told us ……….

I do have concerns as I have grandchildren who will be going to Q E in a few years time. I hope it will be improved by the time they go there.

I think teachers in Q E should wear smarter clothes like a uniform. Perhaps a shirt and tie for the male teachers and a skirt suit for the female teachers. Children don’t respect teachers because they are not in uniform.

It should never have become an academy - lets hope it doesn’t become a grammar school! There have been too many changes both at government level and internally. Stop all this chopping and changing and let the students concentrate on their studies.

It’s all about cuts at the end of the day. It should never have changed to an academy. There have been too many changes.
