NORTH Tawton Town Council has written an Open Letter after its Facebook Page has been disabled.

The Deputy Clerk writes: We are writing to say that the Facebook Page for North Tawton Town Council has been disabled by Facebook without any reason or explanation, other than that the page did not conform to Facebook Community Standards.

“This was unexpected given that the page itself had posts relating to road closures and a weekly photo competition only.

“As we are a Town Council, the interaction with social media is our main connection and source of engagement with the public regarding the role of the Council, the announcement of our meetings, and to post issues that impact North Tawton, such as the mentioned road closures.

“Due to the ongoing issues with Facebook, the Town Council now need to consider how we engage with the community via social media platforms, whilst retaining integrity and transparency.

“This also means that, unfortunately, and through no choice or action of our own, North Tawton Town Council will not be able to Livestream Town Council meetings as we had hoped.

“We have appealed the decision made by Facebook, and the appeal was rejected.

“Again, there is no real explanation, despite requests for a full report to be provided to us from Facebook.

“The Town Council wish to clarify that we are not responsible for the decisions taken by Facebook.

“We would like to appeal to anyone with information regarding the disablement of our Facebook page to contact us.”
