NOMINATIONS are currently being sought to find West Devon community champions for the Borough Council’s annual Mayoral Awards.

Across West Devon, residents work hard to improve the area, and now their efforts can be recognised with the West Devon Mayoral Awards 2017.

The awards celebrate the unsung heroes and heroines of the area, recognising the achievements of those who have accomplished something remarkable in West Devon, or improved the reputation of the Borough on the national stage.

Residents of all ages are eligible for the awards which fall into three categories: a young person (aged under 18); an organisation, or person (over 18); and an individual or group who have made a significant contribution to the conservation and protection of the natural environment of West Devon.

Last year, the winners were:

• In the Over 18 category - Lee Spencer and Donald Rooke

• For the Under 18 category - William Dax

• Dora Cowland, Kath Matthews and Tavistock College’s Sustainability Team won the Conservation category.

Cllr John Sheldon, Mayor of West Devon, said:  "I am looking forward to finding out about the valuable contributions of those within our Borough. The quality of those nominated is always high and I’m sure it will be a very difficult task to choose between the nominees.”

If you are a resident, school or business and would like to nominate, either individuals or groups, who really help to make people’s lives better or those who have achieved something outstanding, then please get in touch.

Nominations must be received by March 3 with the awards being presented on Tuesday, April 11.
