In light of the national emergency this country is facing, NFU Mutual, the UK’s leading rural insurer, has allocated £1 million to help local frontline charities at this difficult time.
To help ensure this support reaches all corners of the UK, NFU Mutual has contacted its Appointed Representative network of local Agents. Consisting of circa 300 independent Agency businesses and nine NFU Mutual Branches, each have been given the opportunity to nominate a handful of local charities to receive a share of this fund.
This donation will enable Age Concern Crediton to continue and further develop the services that it has initiated in response to COVID-19 to support older people in Crediton and the surrounding areas.
Having been forced to close its Day Centre, Age Concern Crediton has re-focused its work by maintaining daily telephone contact with its clients to try to prevent loneliness and isolation.
In addition, it has been shopping and delivering prescriptions, not only for existing clients, but also in response to requests from elsewhere from those concerned for their elderly relatives living in the area.
More recently, it has been delivering hot meals weekly to clients at their homes.
Appointed Representative for the NFU Mutual in Crediton, Richard Pym, said: “The Coronavirus pandemic has had a huge impact on everybody, including our customers and their local communities. Age Concern Crediton is making a wonderful difference to our community in these challenging times, and we are proud to have been able to nominate this local charity to benefit from NFU Mutual’s national fund.”
Michael Coleman, Chairman of trustees at the charity, said: “We’re extremely grateful to NFU Mutual Crediton for nominating our charity to receive a donation from the NFU Mutual Agency Giving Fund.
"The money will go a long way towards helping us continue to support older people in this area during the crisis.
"Many of our clients lead quite isolated lives, not only out in the countryside, but also in Crediton itself.
"Thanks to the financial help from NFU Mutual, we will be able to continue to provide help to them for the foreseeable future. On behalf of all of us at Age Concern Crediton and our clients, we give our thanks for making this possible.”
