EVERY two years a committee is formed to organise and run the Newton St Cyres Village Revels. The objective is to provide a fun time out for all the family whilst enabling local good causes to raise much needed funds.
This year the event will be held on Sunday, July 3, from 12 noon until 5pm, at the Recreation Ground in Station Road, Newton St Cyres. There will be a free car park opposite the Recreation Ground, provided courtesy of the Quicke Family, and entrance will be £2 for adults, £1 for children and Under 5’s will be admitted free-of-charge. The organisers regret that no dogs are permitted at the Recreation Ground.
The Parish Hall has been reserved as a contingency venue in the case of heavy rain!
There will be lots of activities to keep visitors entertained including the first visit by Spangles the Clown and Mark Leveridge, the Strolling Magician.
Additionally there will be football, cricket and school sports as well as the Giant Inflatable Challenge.
Sports available to try will include archery, golf, petanque and tennis as well as football and cricket.
If you form a team of six people, then you can compete for the Revels Trophy by registering your team before July 1 with the challenge organiser Eric Fee (telephone 01392 851595 or email: [email protected] ) and paying the £10 Sports Challenge entry fee.
Alternatively individuals can enter on the day for a fee of £2. These fees are in addition to the entry charge to the Revels.
Good, reasonably priced food will be provided by the team from the Parish Hall with their hog roast and vegetarian options, the French Café will provide crepes and wine and the Church will provide teas and cakes. And, of course, the “Rec” Bar will be open throughout.
There will be cash prizes for the best children’s fancy dress, a Zumba demonstration, nail painting and a school dance display.
And there will be working model trains, vintage cars and other displays, and some live music too.
The various stalls will be offering goods for sale and running competitions whilst the Revels Draw will be offering the chance to win one of more than 40 prizes kindly donated by local businesses.
The event normally attracts several hundred visitors with lots of activities to keep the whole family entertained.
Make it a date in your diary.
