THE Courier has been thanked for its help in finding people to fill the roles of trustee for a Crediton organisation.

Following an appeal in the Courier, a number of interested people volunteered for the roles as trustees for Crediton's Age Concern Day Centre, which in located in Deep Lane, Crediton.

Elaine Soward, chairman, said: "As a result of the article we have had a number of people come forward.

"We are very pleased and it will help us to retain our independence.

"We were looking for a strong team to help us face the challenges ahead and I am delighted to say that is what we now have."

The Deep Lane Centre offers day care from 10am to 2.30pm, Monday to Thursday, and will shortly be opening a short-term memory loss session on a Friday.

Guests are brought to and taken home by one of its volunteer drivers or by Crediton and District Community Transport.

The daily sessions are led by a day care supervisor with the help of volunteers, tailoring each day to the needs of that day's guests.

A variety of activities is available including arts and crafts, writing a news sheet, bingo, scrabble, quizzes, games and much more.

During the summer months there are outings arranged to enjoy lunch out at various local venues.

Home cooked meals are prepared on the premises by the Centre's own cook.

The Centre has also developed other groups such as the art group for those 50-plus, led by a qualified instructor.

It also runs a sports activity group which meets at Lords Meadow Leisure Centre and has a foot care service.
