MID Devon District Council is planning to replace four houses in Cheriton Fitzpaine with six new council homes.
The “end-of-life" properties at Wordland Cross just south of the village would be knocked down and two three-bedroom and four two-bedroom houses built in their place.
Each home would benefit from dedicated parking spaces, cycle storage and outdoor amenity space.
The homes would be traditionally built, in contrast with recent modular house builds in Sandford, for example.
The “high-quality, energy-efficient homes” would be available for social rent.
Councillor Jane Lock (Lib Dem, Canonsleigh), Cabinet Member for Housing, Assets and Property Services, said: “These new homes at Wordland Cross are an example of the council delivering high-quality social housing where it is needed most.
“With more than 1,000 households currently on our housing register, developments like this make a real and immediate difference to local families.
“The development will provide affordable homes for local people and help us meet growing housing demand across Mid Devon."
Blubox Developments Director Alex Willis said: “As a Mid Devon business, we’re proud to be delivering these new homes at Wordland Cross.
“It’s great to see the council investing in contractors from the area. It keeps work, jobs and spending in the local economy, and supports the local suppliers we work with.
“Quality is at the heart of everything we do. We’re looking forward to working closely with the council and the residents of Cheriton Fitzpaine throughout the build, and we can’t wait to see the finished homes handed over to their new tenants.”
The council is currently developing eight other sites and working on proposals for an additional four across the district - information on all of these schemes can be found on the Mid Devon Housing Development Hub by visiting: letstalk.middevon.gov.uk/mdh-development-hub.
