NEW officers were appointed at the Annual General Meeting of Crediton Chamber of Commerce on January 24.

Following the resignation from the post of Chairperson, held by Tara Conabeare (Evans Newsagents) and the resignation of the post of Vice Chair held by David Oliver (Oliver’s Bakery) new officers have now been appointed.

Tara Conabeare held the position of Chairperson since the Crediton Traders Group took over Crediton Chamber of Commerce in 2015.

Since then the Chamber successfully returned to being an active group comprising of small and large businesses in Crediton, both in the High Street and on the Lords Meadow Industrial Estate as well as home businesses in surrounding villages.

The new chamber group created a new logo, now has a website and also a presence on social media.

Chamber has been actively involved in a number of events in the past few years, Christmas in Crediton, flags project, promotion of the High Street, unveiling of the High Street advertising board at the Tesco Wellparks store, the Otter Trail, Landscore School history trail and also offered a number of guest speaker evenings aimed at assisting and helping small businesses.

In her Chairperson’s report, Tara reported that due to a heavy workload at the newsagents, as well as the job she has in Tospham, she felt she could no longer give the required time and attention the position needs.

Tara said: “Change is needed and change is good.”

She also conveyed her thanks to all involved in the Chamber for their support and assistance - especially to her fellow officers.

Tara also thanked David Oliver stating that without his help in the past few years she would not have been able to fulfil the duties of Chamber.

She said: “David Oliver has been a great help, attending meetings, dealing with correspondence, physically climbing the ladder putting Christmas trees and flags up and as he has now retired from the bakery he will be greatly missed in and around the High Street.”

Tara and David will remain members of the Chamber committee.

The new officers are: Chairperson - Bruce Evans - Grape and Grain, Vice Chair - Dee Lalljee - Crediton Community Bookshop, Treasurer - David Jaques - Wortham Jaques, Social media officer - Kate-Jane Stewart - Yellow Mouse Studios.
