THE story, MDDC Litter Buster team start work to improve look of district, appeared in the Courier on Friday, July 21, issue 1147.

Mid Devon District Council’s new Litter Buster team is a rapid response team that was set up

specifically to deal with fly tipping and littering across Mid Devon.

The team has had a busy start with clearing litter from high speed roads and the quick removal of fly tipping using their Litter Busters vehicle.

Litter on our roads can be harmful to wildlife and the environment and can leave councils carrying the cost.

It also gives visitors to the area a poor impression.

Prevention is also high on the council’s agenda with more resources being put into education and enforcement.

The council are also encouraging members of the public to report any fly tipping and littering they witness.

Please let me know your thoughts on fly tipping, littering and the new Litter Busters Team.

What you told us ...

If it stops litter it’s got to be good. Children need to be taught not to drop litter, there’s no respect anymore. Anything that stops litter is brilliant.

Mrs Spencer, Exeter

I think that’s good. People that fly tip should be prosecuted. I think that increased charges at Punchbowl Recycling Centre have made it worse.

Tedburn St Mary Resident

I find it disturbing that we should be such litter louts!

John Higgs, Crediton

I think it’s a good idea. If I see rubbish on the pavement, as long as it’s not something grimy like a tissue I pick it up and put it in the nearest bin. In an ideal world if eveyone did that we wouldn’t need the Litter Busters.

John Warrington, Crediton

That’s really good, there’s nothing worse than driving through the countryside and finding food wrappers thrown everywhere.
