A TIVERTON councillor has been made deputy leader of Mid Devon District Council.

David Wulff (Lib Dem, Tiverton Castle)’s appointment comes amid a reshuffle following the Devon County Council elections in May.

The previous deputies, Cllrs Simon Clist (Lib Dem, Upper Culm) and Jane Lock (Lib Dem, Canonsleigh), are taking on new responsibilities.

Cllr Clist has joined the county council’s cabinet, and Cllr Lock has taken on an expanded housing, property and assets portfolio at the district council.

“It’s a real privilege to take on the role of deputy leader at such a positive turning point for Mid Devon,” Cllr Wulff said.

“With some valued cabinet colleagues now sharing our district’s success at county level, I’m proud to help drive that progress forward and keep delivering for local people.

“My fellow councillors and the dedicated officers at Mid Devon make up a fantastic team. I’m looking forward to building on our practical, community-focused approach - especially as more people look to their local council for clear, effective support.

“One area I’m especially keen to tackle is health inequalities across the district. That means making services easier to access – whether it’s mental health support, safer public spaces, or new opportunities to help people feel more connected.

“Small, meaningful changes can make a big difference, and I’m determined to make sure no one in Mid Devon is left behind.”

Mid Devon District Council Leader Cllr Luke Taylor (Lib Dem, Bradninch), added: “David’s appointment is a testament to the fresh, inclusive approach the Liberal Democrats have brought to Mid Devon.

“Since ending decades of Conservative control, we’ve transformed the council into an engine of progress - fixing the finances, restoring trust, and putting those who need help first.

“David’s focus on tackling health inequalities and supporting our most vulnerable residents is exactly what Mid Devon needs.”
