CREDITON and District Community Transport is seeking more volunteers to help it deliver its services.

It needs people with a wide range of skills, including drivers as well as people to help in the office and with fundraising.

Drivers are required who are willing to use their own cars to transport elderly and disabled people to hospital and other appointments and to enable them to access services generally available to the rest of the community.

Someone to edit and arrange distribution of the Community Transport quarterly newsletter is also required.

Someone is also required to maintain the charity's website.

To attract volunteers, an open afternoon and evening will be held at the Community Transport offices in Market Street, Crediton on Thursday, October 4.

Anyone interested in helping or finding out more is invited to go along.

Existing volunteers, trustees and staff members will be on-hand to answer any questions and to explain what is needed.

Mike May, chairman said: "I will be delighted to see anyone who may be able to help, in whatever capacity, on October 4.

"Please come along and see how you can help deliver the vital services that we provide."

Kevin Yarnley, manager, said: "The survival of this organisation relies on a willing band of volunteers.

"We have got a good base of drivers but could still do with some more.

"Others with specific skills are also needed.

"Because we are a charity we cannot afford to pay people but we hope people will step forward to give something back to their community.

"Please come along to our open afternoon and evening on October 4 or call into our offices to find out more."

• Crediton and District Community Transport delivers a number of transport services to enable people who would otherwise find difficulty in accessing services and facilities available to the community.

Services include a voluntary car scheme, ring and ride, a wheelchair accessible vehicle and a vehicle available for hire to community groups.
