MOIRA Astin will be installed as the Suffragan Bishop of Crediton at Exeter Cathedral on Sunday, July 6 at 4pm.
Everyone is invited to join in welcoming Bishop Moira to her new ministry in Devon.
All are welcome; no booking is required.
The Venerable Moira Astin’s appointment as the new Bishop of Crediton was announced on June 3 by Downing Street, following approval by the King.
Moira was born in 1965 in Staines, Surrey. She was educated at Clare College, Cambridge, and trained for ministry at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford.
Her prior roles include curate at Newbury, Team Vicar in Thatcham, Vicar of St James Woodley and Vicar of Frodingham and New Brumby, where she also served as Area Dean of North Lincolnshire.
Since 2016, she has served as Archdeacon of Reigate in the Diocese of Southwark.
Moira is married to Timothy and has one son, Edmund. Her latest book is titled “The Missing Ending: Rediscovering the Joy of the Ascension”.
The Venerable Moira Astin succeeds the Rt Rev Jackie Searle, who retired in January after more than six years in the role.
She will be consecrated a bishop by the Rt Rev Sarah Mullally, Bishop of London, on Thursday, July 3 at St Paul’s Cathedral in London.
Bishop Sarah was the first female Bishop of Crediton.
“I’m looking forward to getting to know the people and places of Devon,” said Moira.
“Our churches, whether in a village, new town, seaside resort or city centre, are still the heart of their communities and I look forward to praying with and encouraging them as they tell in word and action of God’s transforming love.”
The Bishop of Crediton serves the whole of Devon, and in particular North Devon, Mid Devon and East Devon.
