IN her New Year Message, the Mayor of Crediton, Cllr Liz Brookes-Hocking, said: “It’s the people of the town that make Crediton such a good place to live.”

She continues: “Doing things together and helping each other has got us through the year and will get us through the next one, too.

“While we might have an idea of what we think will happen in 2022, I don’t think any of us would be surprised to be proved entirely wrong.

“Whatever the uncertainties, one thing is sure, that Crediton will go on being a friendly and welcoming town for residents and visitors alike.

“Our businesses, community groups, voluntary and statutory organisations are all aiming to keep everyone safe, healthy and contented.

“There are challenges ahead for everyone, young and old.

“The pandemic is not over and its effects are likely to last for some time yet.

“The climate emergency will require us to make changes over the next few years. Some of them are likely to be ones we’re reluctant to make!

“But challenges are also opportunities to come up with new ideas and do things differently. That includes the town council, too, as we also aim to play our part in keeping our community strong.

“We especially look forward to seeing the town come together for community events and celebrations throughout 2022.

“Whether you are Crediton born and bred, a long-standing resident, a new arrival or just passing through, on behalf of the town council, I send you best wishes for the New Year.”
