THE Mayor of Crediton, Cllr Frank Letch, has issued a heart-warming and heartfelt New Year’s Message to the people of Crediton in which he looks back at events during the last year and also forward to the coming year.

He writes: “This year has flown by highlighting important events international, national and local.

“Those who follow the events abroad cannot but be saddened, dismayed and concerned at the shocking treatment of innocent civilians by heavily armed forces.

“Should there be a need to help some refugees I hope and trust that Kirtonians can rise to the occasion.

“Nationally the big event was the European Membership Referendum which saw the country vote to leave with the consequent resignation of the Prime Minister, David Cameron, and his replacement by Teresa May.

“As negotiations will be lengthy and difficult I hope that the June 23 vote will not harm our town’s businesses.

“At a local level we have acquired two new councillors, one co-opted, the other elected in the first election for a Crediton Town Council seat since 2003.

“I hope the Town Councillors will all join me in wishing all Kirtonians a happy, peaceful and successful 2017.

“At this time of hope let us remember those who face each day alone, those who go hungry and with substandard accommodation.

“Let us be thankful that we live in a tolerant and friendly town and look forward with optimism to the undoubted challenges of 2017.”
