The free project, which is open to all school-age children in the area, continues to grow in popularity, with over 150 entries received this term.

Led by retired teacher Linda Williamson, Kick Start Art encourages children to experiment with different techniques, learn about artists, and most importantly, enjoy the process of making art. With support from the Crediton Heart Project, the initiative is now being delivered both at home and in schools.

A number of outstanding entries were selected as winners and runners-up, with children receiving certificates, medals, and WOW Awards to celebrate their work. Prizes for this term’s challenge were kindly sponsored by the Crediton Lions Club, whose generosity helped make the awards possible.

“The standard of entries this time was truly incredible,” said Ms Williamson.

“The imagination, detail and personality in the children’s artwork really blew me away.

“One child told me it was the best day of their life when they found out they’d won—that’s what it’s all about.”

As part of the celebration, Linda has also been visiting local schools to present prizes during assemblies and personally congratulate the artists.

A special community exhibition is being planned for next year, with the hope that it can travel to different venues so even more people can enjoy the wonderful work being created.
