PAM Murphy, one of our own Local Preachers, led the service at Crediton Methodist Church on Sunday, January 17. Her theme was "Listening and Following".

The Family Challenge was a quiz in which we had to identify various sounds which necessitated listening.

The Bible reading from Samuel was performed by one family as a dramatised reading telling how young Samuel heard the call of God, although at first he did not realise it was God speaking to him.

Pam thought that probably Samuel was dreaming when he heard God calling. She mentioned other dreams – where Joseph was told in a dream to marry Mary and also the Wise Men who were told in a dream not to return to Herrod.

When Samuel realised it was God speaking to him, he listened to God’s important message to give to the Israelites who, in turn, listened to Samuel.

Pam spoke about ways people have heard God speaking to them – in a whisper, as rushing water, as a bell.
