A DIABETES awareness event has been held at Crediton Methodist Church.

Organised by Crediton and District Lions Club, people who went along on Saturday, June 14 learned about the symptoms of diabetes and factors that could increase their chances of developing the condition.

Diabetes UK Lead Volunteer Lisa Chapman was there offering advice and nurse Chelsea Pincott of Redlands GP surgery pricked attendees’ fingertips to test their blood sugar levels.

“Lions clubs worldwide want to make sure everyone knows the signs to look for and knows their risk of developing type two diabetes,” Crediton and District Lions Club Secretary Bronwyn Nott said.

“If type one diabetes is left undiagnosed it can make you really ill really quickly.

“Knowing the signs could avoid a medical emergency and save lives.”
