IN his New Year message, the Mayor of Crediton, Cllr Frank Letch, says Kirtonians should be thankful that they live in a wonderful town but also comments on some of the problems the town has faced and challenges it still has to face.

Mr Letch comments: “I look back at 2015 with a mixture of emotions from fulfilment and sadness to relief and satisfaction.

Crediton Town Council met the challenges of the first round of service reductions but we realise that there are more cuts to come.

“This is why we have again asked for a small increase in the precept. We shall all have to pay a little more in council tax but councillors feel sure that caring Kirtonians will agree to this rise to help save services cut by higher councils.

“Although it seems we are looking towards a future of continued “austerity” I feel that Crediton is upbeat, positive and looking forward to the challenges put before it.

“As it is a leap year we have an extra day to get things right. We shall continue to put pressure on Mid “Devon District Council to retain as good a service as possible in the town and watch planning applications with vigilance.

“On a positive note this year’s Christmas in Crediton Parade was a great success even if the weather was not as pleasant as last year. Let us hope that this town spirit continues next year!

“At this time of families coming together let us think of those people who spend most of their time on their own, and of those less fortunate than ourselves.

“I send all Kirtonians Season’s Greetings and wish them a Happy New Year.

“Let us be thankful that we live in a wonderful town and look forward to a bright 2016.”
