OUR picture shows George Bolt (80) and his wife Grace (79) who celebrated their Diamond Wedding anniversary yesterday (February 18).

The couple, who live at Westgate, Lapford, met as teenagers and were married at Bideford.

Grace and George were both born at Winkleigh, but George moved to Lapford when he was just three years old and later attended the old Lapford Primary School, which he left at 14 to work for Tommy Tucker and Sons, the local Builders.

When Grace left school, she went into Service, as did most young girls in those days.

The couple lived in Winkleigh for 30 years, then moved to Lapford.  George played Football for both Winkleigh and Lapford. Both were members of the Winkleigh Bowling Club for many years and won a number of prizes.

George also plays skittles for the Malt Scoop whilst   Grace's hobbies are jigsaw puzzles and gardening  plus going on coach trips with her twin sister, Josephine.

The couple have five children, 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren and said the family took them to Downes Crediton Golf Club for a celebration party.

Grace and George agree that give and take and their wonderful, close, family, have made their 60 years together a very happy time.
