Mole Avon Country Stores moved into its fantastic new £5.2 million store at Joseph Locke Way, Wellparks during the same month and has since sold the Mill Street premises to Mike Sanders of The Bike Shed, Crediton.
A business using the Mole Avon name has operated since October 1966. Starting at Downes Mill on the outskirts of Crediton, the business moved to the former winter quarters of Anderton and Rowland Circus on Mill Street in November 1970.
Mole Avon Trading Limited commenced trading in August 1973. As well as operating a retail branch from this site, part of the buildings were used for the company’s buying, accounting, administration and marketing departments.
Mole Avon has also run a retail clothing and footwear shop in Crediton High Street from rented premises since 1992 which trades under the name of Town and Countrywear.
