IT will be the end of an era on July 28 when Ivor Coram's shoe shop ceases trading.

Ivor Coram started selling shoes in Crediton 62 years ago, gaining a reputation for quality and care.

The business, at 25 High Street, has been run by Ivor's son, David, in recent years but trading has been difficult of late.

David said it was purely economic reasons that he could not continue with the business, one in which he had worked all his working life.

He said he was pleased to report that the three staff had either found employment or retired.

Margaret, who had been with the business for 39 years is now working a few days a week with A E Lee (Outfitters) and Sandra, who has been with Ivor Coram's for 12 years was working in Oliver's Bakery. Sylvia has retired after 36 years service.

Until July 28 David is running a closing down sale, where everything must go and there is 50 per cent or more off all the stock.

David said he was pleased to say that the Age Concern Crediton charity shop would be moving in to the shop after Ivor Coram's had closed.

David added: "I would like to thank all the customers who have supported Ivor Coram's over the years."

He added that it was just himself who had no job to go to in the future and would like to hear about any going!
