“SPAMALOT” the musical was adapted from the 1975 film “Monty Python and the Holy Grail”.
Like the film it is a highly irreverent parody of the Arthurian legend.
It was first performed on Broadway in 2005 and after receiving 14 Tony Award nominations it won in three categories. In 2006 it opened in London and won seven Olivier Awards.
In a (coco)nut shell King Arthur, along with Patsy his long suffering servant and “horse”, recruits a motley band of knights to join him at his Round Table in Camelot.
Here they are given a quest by God to search for the Holy Grail.
Meanwhile, the mysterious Lady of the Lake gives him a hand along the way adding much needed glamour to the occasion and accompanied by her rather “gung ho” Laker girls.
As they go on their quest they meet some very strange characters, partnerships are formed, fights are fought, limbs are lost and personal grails are found.
Don’t expect to understand this show, rather be carried along by all the infectious silliness and chaos!
The dates of the production are Wednesday, October 26 to Saturday, October 29 at 7.30pm in QE Upper School, Western Road.
Tickets are priced at £15 for adults and £12.50 for concessions.
